Private house in Malta

Architectural design and drawings, 2011-2010

Plot size: 360 m²

Construction: 2011-2010

On the north side of Duhok city, a modernist house has been designed to harmonize with the surroundings. Located in a steep part, this family home utilizes all sides of the building to create meaningful spatial connections both indoors and outdoors.

The family's desire was to have a cozy yet modern home. With four young children, they needed a visually appealing and highly functional space. The home is organized with social spaces flowing around the garden on the ground floor, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor spaces. The second floor offers multiple suites, natural light and views of the surrounding greenery.

The house balances private and communal living and has distinct areas for both children and parents. At the core of the home, these spaces converge around the kitchen, living and dining areas, all of which are open to the garden. Large windows and sightlines further reinforce the connection to the outdoors. The result is a comfortable and functional home that promotes privacy without isolation, a dynamic that ensures social spaces are neither too open nor too closed.

The home is designed to support the family as they grow and age. As children grow up, they can gain more independence, with spaces designed for teenagers and returning young adults. Interaction between household members is encouraged, avoiding the isolation of individual suites.

The design includes both a main entrance and a family entrance, meeting practical needs while maintaining a formal entrance for guests, which is the formal entrance visible from the street.

A unified material palette of natural limestone, granite and glass creates a cohesive aesthetic. Inside, oak finishes, along with plaster and marble details, reinforce the warmth and durability of the home.
